All the best,
Mark Mary Lili December 06 St.Kentigerns Hospice Needs More Funding!Politicians have launched a drive to get more funding for hospices in Wales.
Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesman and myself kicked off the "Support Our Hospices in Wales" campaign at St Kentigern Hospice, St Asaph last week.
Support was provided from the Rt Hon Jim Wallace, former First Minister for Scotland along with Eleanor Burnham, AM for North Wales, who toured the hospice with myself.
Interesting Mr Wallace revealed in Scotland all hospices are supported and funded to the tune of 40% from the Government. He was shocked the Welsh average is only 20%
St Kentigerns has lost £354,000 in grant funding and now has to survive on a measly 12%.
Everybody was in agreement that the hospice was excellently run and offered a tranquil and friendly environment for its patients.
Sixteen months ago health minister Dr Brian Gibbons promised he would look at the funding strategy for hospices in Wales, but there's till no action on this urgent matter.
Ms Burnham vowed to take the issue up with Mr Gibbons in the Welsh Assembly.
It is a disgrace our local hospice is running on 12% of Government funding. That is less than a third of what hospices receive in Scotland. If the Scottish Government sees fit to give 40& funding then why on earth are we having this discussion in Wales???
This is a call to everyone to contact your local MPs and AMs to protest about this and I appeal to all fundraisers and donators to consider making St Kentigern a beneficiary of their kind donations.
