A walk in the vale

Summer holidays are about going on holiday! But when you live in North Wales where better to go on holiday than your own town and village. Denbighshire -the best kept secret is what I say! On August 3 2005 myself and 60 other people walked through the beautiful forest of Llangwyfan admiring the beauty and trying to spot the rare species of bird, the NightJar. Working alongside the countryside officers myself and a group of locals are trying to form a group "Friends of Llangwyfan Forest" to promote the forest locally . The aim is to look after the forest,put ponds back in it, encourage more wildlife and promote and encourage people to use it [we hope to have visits from schools in the local towns of rhyl,denbigh and villages ]. The Nightjare walk was the first of our ideas. We all met at 8.00pm and met with the countryside officers . Their knowledge and passion for the forest and its wildlife is a credit to the denbighshire council. After spending an hour walking to the top and looking out across the hills, we moved into place to watch the darkness fall and hear the distinctive call of the Nightjar. The darkness fell but there was no Nightjar calling! Perhaps it was the 60 people perched in the forest that scared them off?
10.00pm came and still no Nightjar. And so it was decided for those hard core left that our own nightjar beckoned.We retired to the local village pub, The White Horse to have a whisky to warm us up.#

A fun night was had by all and many more ideas for the forest will take place......
